Focus – Canon – Troubleshoot – Control Camera Focus with Touchscreen
PROBLEM
I purchased your Focus monitor in the spring of this year and have not received a clear answer since then as to whether there will ever be an update to enable Canon's auto focus via touch screen. Can you please inform me regarding this? Auto focus is extremely valuable for micro adjustments during interviews and many other things – currently my Focus monitor sits on the shelf because of this!
SOLUTION
Currently the camera does not receive any input via the video port (mHDMI etc) - it is only sending data (video and meta data).
The Monitor is not interfacing with the camera, simply it is being allowed to see what the camera sees. It is just not possible to "control" the camera in this way due to the cameras design.
You can, if the camera supports touch screen onboard interface, use that screen to adjust your focus- as that directly interfaces with the hardware on the camera itself.
It's the same as plugging the camera into your TV. The TV is being allowed to see what is being output from the camera, but your TV can not control the camera, such as adjust a setting or focus. The SmallHD monitor is like a small TV that you can transport with your camera.
There have been known cases of the Canon image being cropped. We have had success with creating separate pages inside of the UI and turning off some of the features and settings.
Hope this helps.
