i1 calibration probe - Xrite – Troubleshooting– Cant calibrate monitor with my probe
PROBLEM
Xrite i1 probe won’t work with my monitor. I doesn’t talk to the unit, nothing happens. Do I need a special LUT or something?
I am getting odd results, the color is off, how do I use the Auto Calibrate function on my OLED monitor?
How can I calibrate my monitor?
SOLUTION
The Auto Calibrate option required a SmallHD Branded or OEM* model of the i1 probe.
The Probe should work with the following models:
501, 502, 502 Bright (90%), 702 (90%), FOCUS, FOCUS 7 (90%), 1303 Studio, 1703 Studio/ P3/ P3X, 2403 Studio
Using the Probe should yield marginal improvements in white point and gamma curves if the panel has shifted since factory calibration. If the monitor refuses to accept the probe, please let us know. If you see any “weird” behaviors, please send us a video clip or image of the issue.
The monitor that has a USB port that must be used for the Auto Calibrate function. Once the probe in plugged in, you will need to disable the current calibration on the monitor in the Calibration menu and then run the Auto Calibrate.
Lighting conditions in the room should be even, avoid direct sunlight or bright strong sourced light.
The i1 Probe will not work with the 702 Lite and 701 Lite (no USB) and has issues working with HDR, OLED, monitors with panels above 1000 nits and should not be used with these models.
If using external software, the i1 Probe prefers the Monitor to be below 1000 nits. Try setting your brightness to 70-90% if you have a 1000 + nit monitor.
**Warning: Changing the backlight will affect the accuracy of the calibration. If the monitor is over 1000nit it should be professionally calibrated, SmallHD offers this service if desired, please reach out to support to schedule one.**
There are many options for external calibration tools, CalMAN (what we use in-house) or similar software is an option beyond the Xrite i1 USB calibration method.

*As a note, the probe must be the OEM (expensive) or SmallHD version. The lower cost probe will not work with puggin into our monitor directly. More information is located here. https://www.xrite.com/service-support/oem_i1display_pro_devices
