Firmware Tool – SmallHD – Technical – How do the scopes work? IRE reference?
PROBLEM
Exposure assist:
To which IRE values does it refer to... Data or Video? Full or Legal levels?
Question on Gain:
Are the monitors per default set to full range data?
How do I change to legal (or video) levels?
I think I have to shift Lift & Gain under the Settings input tab... but how much and in which direction do I have to shift them?
SOLUTION
The unit can receive either Legal or Full Range values. It will handle these slightly differently.
If we receive full range levels, we clip values 0-15 and 236-255.
If we receive Legal range values, we simply display the full data range normally.
0IRE = 16 and 100 IRE = 235 ALWAYS for Luma values
-7 IRE = 0 data level, and 255 data value = 109 IRE
The Scopes (tools) will show what signal is being received, not what is being displayed. (i.e., a LUT will not affect the scopes).
Any adjustments to your scopes should be done at the source sending to the monitor.
